We interrupt your normal blog posts to bring you this special announcement: Dollhouse had its first good episode.

I just saw last night’s Dollhouse. Awesome! I’ve been quite disappointed with the series in general (though I’d still follow Whedon to the ends of the earth) but this was the first episode of the series that actually felt like a good episode.

While it pains me to say that, “Bella Chose” really was the first episode that easily blended humor (for every character), strong plots, a non-pushy message, and… just a sense of ease. This episode, penned by Whedon alumni Tim Minear (more…)

Fall TV: Never Watch new series

Posted September 26, 2009

Either you aren’t the target audience, the show is trying too hard, or it just plain sucks, steer clear of these shows.

Never Watch.

Eastwick – I would put this as an eventually watch, but through the eyes of a traditional 20 year old student, I’ve moved it down a peg. Basically, college students are just not the target audience. A whimsical tale of three grown women, with mortgages and alcoholic husbands, unexpectedly become magical after their wishing coins touch in (more…)

Fall TV: Eventually Watch new series

Posted September 26, 2009

Watch these series online or when you’ve got homework to procrastinate.

Eventually Watch.

The Good Wife – College students aren’t really the target audience of a CBS crime drama, but this one starts off so well that we might as well be. Julianna Margulies (ER) stars as the wife of Attorney General Florrick (Chris Noth) who resigned amongst a sex scandal and financial misconduct accusations. While Mrs. Florrick attempts to start her professional life over again as a junior associate at big law firm, she must deal with her husband’s legal proceedings and the world’s view of her as the wife to such a heinous man. Supposedly it will become a standard legal drama, but I hope The Good Wife remembers the character drama roots of its excellent pilot. B+ (more…)

Fall TV: Must Watch new series

Posted September 26, 2009

Here’s your guide for what to watch, checkout online when you have time, and skip altogether (at least til summer).

Must Watch.

Glee – If you don’t sit and watch this live, I will have to hunt you down, tie you in sequins, and blare “Don’t Stop Believin” into your brain until you surrender. One of the most highly anticipated and well-reviewed show in years, Glee is the perfect mixture of musical, self-deprecating humor, and unknown talent. I dare you to watch “Acafellas” and not fall in love/envy of Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, or Amber Riley. A (more…)

The Cast of Glee on their mall tour!

Thanks to creative advertising and the actors’ use of Twitter, I got to see the cast of Glee (minus the teachers) at the Galleria of Dallas this afternoon. The did a meet-and-greet poster signing for the first 2 hours and then a Q&A on the main floor after. (more…)

Personal Appeal: Dear Aaron Sorkin

Posted June 17, 2009

Dear Aaron Sorkin,

I have recently rewatched all 7 seasons of The West Wing and I have come to the dramatic and regretful conclusion that you are an ass. After 4 seasons of writing one of the most well-regarded and rewarded television show in history, you leave. You leave without having given your writers a legitimate opportunity to learn and replicate your impressive style. And credit where credit is due, you can write a biting, comprehensive, and poignant sentence better than any television writer I’ve ever seen. (more…)
