A Classy Affair: Rag&Bone Trunk Show
Forget chaotic warehouses and shady storefronts, this is sample sale done the Barney’s way. Picture this: a perfectly-set décor announcing “Rag&Bone” on an old-school chalkboard, six pristine racks of Spring 2010 clothing, and a mahogany table with intimidating-looking employees ready to strip your credit card clean.
This preview shopping experience – the line won’t debut in stores until February or March – may cater to the more veteran client, but the Rag&Bone aesthetic is one that any campus mavenista can aspire to. Co-founder and co-designer David Neville, who was at the trunk show from 2-4pm today October 23rd, explains what this aesthetic encapsulates: “British tailoring, military inspiration, New York downtown cool, and menswear.” The resulting pieces are playfully chic – a quality reflected in the designers themselves. Neville checks his cell phone, pulls a wooden stick out of the décor and swings it like a bat, then checks his cell phone again.
“Our line reflects our journey in this business – we [Marcus Wainwright - Rag&Bone’s other half - and I] came from Britain and started in the U.S. in menswear,” he continues. And Spring 2010 is the season that really draws on this: “Rather than being inspired by anything specific, we really tried to define the Rag&Bone girl this season.”
Channel your inner Rag&Bone in their signature women’s boyfriend shirts prepped for spring in light flannels and butter yellow ($185-$275), in super casual boyfriend blazers with cuffed 3/4 length sleeves – or go nautical with thin blue and white stripes ($395), and in sumptuous leather – the ‘Wine Armory Jacket’ ($1495) accented with industrial black trimmings and a row of silver buttons is divine. It’s all a very wearable ladylike meets tomboy meets downtown chic. Whether you can afford the Rag&Bone label or not, well, that’s your little secret.
Rag&Bone Spring ’10 Sample Sale at Barney’s, 7th floor, 660 Madison Avenue, through Saturday, October 24th, 10am – 6pm.
