Trailer Tuesdays: Crime Edition

This week’s trailers all tell terrible crimes and atrocities that cannot be forgiven:
Summer Jobs!—Adventureland: Superbad director Greg Molotta breaks from the Apatow crew to make his own film that follows in the same vein as films like Waiting. This one stars Jessie Eisenberg from The Squid and the Whale as a high school senior who needs to make money quick, and ends up working at an amusement park. Bill Hader and Kristen Stewart also star, and the film looks decently hilarious, but it is still questionable whether Molotta can pull this one without the backing of the most powerful many in comedy. (March 2009)

Releasing CIA Names!—Nothing But the Truth: This oscar bait film actually looks quite interesting, as it dramatizes (not completely but at least obviously) the Valerie Plame CIA leak. Kate Beckinsale looks like she finally has a role she can sink her teeth into, and it should be a good, fun thriller. (December 19th)
Signing Up with Nazis!—Good: Let’s get one thing out of the way—there are very few actors who I will see no matter what the work is, and Viggo Mortenson is one of them, since his time on Middle Earth has faded, he has had some deceptively clever and intriguing performances, as either a hit man playing good, a Russian mobster, or a Western hero. And while The Road was pushed back to next year, we still get to see something even better—Viggo as a Nazi sympathizer for work’s sake. Although the director is a little shaky (he once worked on a soft core Porn series), Mortenson can make anything into gold. (December 31st)
Mickey Rourke not getting good work for 15 years!—The Wrestler: In Darren Aronofsky’s latest flick (which is extremely different from his work in Requiem for a Dream and The Fountain), Mickey Rourke gets to play an 80s professional wrestler at the end of his line, whose hoping for a comeback. The trailer shows some of the best stuff from Rourke, as well as Bruce Springsteen’s awesome original song. Fox Searchlight will be jamming this film down your throat in a month, so catch it before you miss all the buzz. (December 17th)
Twilight is a phenomenon that maybe even Harry can’t stop!—Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: While emo-teen-vampire-flick-written-by-Mormon-mother Twilight destroyed all records last week at the box office, Warner Bros. gave the generation that isn’t into that lame stuff something to cheer about—a new Harry Potter trailer. The latest one shows off a lot of the new stuff, and should keep fans happy till its arrival next summer. (July 2009)
