Trailer Tuesdays: EPIC Edition

Face it, there are things that are cool, there are things that are awesome, and then there are things that are above all of those. And the only word to describe those things, is EPIC. EPIC things are indescribable, and this weeks trailers include many EPIC premises and ideas.
EPIC Battle—Monsters Vs. Aliens: Although I haven’t been a fan of recent animated tales from Dreamworks, Monsters Vs. Aliens looks not only awesome because it has monsters AND aliens, but it looks to parody many of the classic science fiction films. Add in the lovable Seth Rogen as a blob, and you’ve got a great movie. (March 2009)

EPIC Long Movie—Che: IFC Films has finally put the first word out of Steven Soderbergh’s four and a half hour non-biopic of Che Guevera, starring Benicio Del Toro. Although this trailer gives the flash of a Cuban Lawrence of Arabia, I saw the film at NYFF it is more of an academic experience that anything else. Still, the trailer highlights some of the film’s more exciting sequences. (December 12th)

EPIC Journey—Up: It’s Pixar, so it has to be EPIC. In the latest Pixar adventure, we don’t follow a fish, nor a robot, nor even a superhero. Instead, they give us…an old man? The 80 year old Carl Fredrickson decides to go on a journey across the world by taking his house along with him, using 1000 balloons. In what might be inspired by Don Quixote, Pixar looks to have another winner on hands. (May 2009)

Joss Whedon’s EPIC Return—Dollhouse: So it might be TV, but Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly creator Joss Whedon has a new TV series on hand. Unfortunately, this second teaser decides to not highlight the brilliant writing but instead guns and sex. Did FOX destroy another amazing series, or will Whedon come on top again, only to have his series cancelled? (January 2009)

Alan Rickman Being EPIC—Nobel Son: Alan Rickman is a ****ing awesome actor. While most people know him as Snape in the Harry Potter films, Rickman has made a career of playing awesome character roles in films like Die Hard and Dogma. In Nobel Son, Rickman plays a nobel laureate who has his son captured. What does he do? Decides to **** **** up in the way that can only be described as EPIC (December 5th)
